And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. — Isaiah 2:4

“If it bleeds, it leads.”

In the mainstream news media, it seems that there are only hostility and violence in Israel/Palestine. Most of the time though, people are just trying to make a living, like everyone else in the world.

The life between the Israeli Jews and the Palestinians may not be exactly ideal, or rather far from it, but they get along more often than we see in the media, and it is usually kind of mundane.

While the governmental powers are unwilling or unable to resolve the crisis, grassroot campaigns and individuals from all over the world are picking up the slack, joining and supporting the Palestinians in their struggle for dignity, freedom and rights.

Christian organizations, like the Christian Peacemaker Team and the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI)—an initiative of the World Council of Churches, take an active-passive approach in supporting and advocating for a just peace.

Grassroot campaigns organized by Israelis, Palestinians or both, try to break the barrier of animosity in such difficult circumstances with perseverance.

At the same time, some individuals in the Israeli army and government, despite the systemic injustice, do try to carry out their jobs with restraint.

After living in diasporas and facing discrimination and oppression for centuries, some among the Jewish people choose to be strong advocates for human rights and associate themselves with the oppressed Palestinians, reflecting what they consider true Jewish values.
